Martin Van Buren - Our 8th President

Most of us had a small amount of knowledge of our High School's namesake. He was the 8th President of the United States from 1837-1841 and was the first Chief Executive born under the United States flag. Only about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, but trim and erect, the "Little Magician" dressed fastidiously. His impeccable appearance belied his amiability--and his humble background. The term "O.K." was popularized because of Van Buren. Van Buren was from Kinderhook, New York, sometimes referred to as Old Kinderhook in speeches and print. O.K. Clubs soon formed to support Van Buren's campaign. "O.K." later came to mean all right. Don't you feel proud to be part of this Past President's High School namesake?

Upcoming 25th Reunion

Our Reunion Contact and Planning Committee members have worked out the details with the Reunions Unlimited Agency. They assisted Heidi Scheen -Fox and others organize and arrange our first reunion, the 10th successfully. Our 10th Reunion was held at the Terrace in The Park in Flushing Meadows, Queens. Our 20th Reunion, also handled by Reunions Unlimited was held in the ballrooms of the Laquardia Marriott Hotel in Queens, New York. What venue awaits us for the 25th? Glad you asked. The answer is the Long Island Marriott Hotel in Uniondale, Long Island adjacent to the Nassau Colliseum. For those not familiar with this hotel you can visit their website at;
